There are many reasons why companies choose to redesign their website. Here are 5 BAD reasons that could ruin the process before it begins!
BAD reasons:
-
“It’s been 2 years (or any timeframe) since our last website redesign, isn’t it time?”
-
“The owner wants a new web design.”
-
“Our Marketing budget allows for a redesign of our current website.”
-
“Our competitor just redesigned their website.”
-
“We redesigned our logo so we need a new website design too.”
Do these sound familiar?Much to the dismay of many web designers, these are not reasons to redesign a website.
Sometimes when I say this to a client, they look at me like I’m crazy.“Are you really telling me not to redesign my website?”, they’ll ask me. ”If that is the only reason you are redesigning your website, than YES!”
GOOD reasons:
-
Expand your web marketing efforts and enable your company & offering to get found by more potential customers.
-
Convert more potential customers visiting the website into actionable leads, or customers.
-
Realign your brand. (This can be a GOOD reason, IF it promotes more exposure, & more conversions.)
When comparing potential web development companies, be sure that they are validating your GOOD reasons, and presenting a plan that can accomplish these goals. If they are not doing this, find a partner that is.
