I think we can all agree that your potential customers want to do business with knowledgeable people and companies. I would even venture to say that many of these people spend a considerable amount of time and energy seeking out companies that are leaders in their field to do business with.
So, how do you become viewed as a leader in your field? There are many ways to get there. All of them start with possessing knowledge that others find valuable, and sharing that knowledge in a meaningful way.
I meet with many companies that are great at what they do. Their staff is a wealth of powerful knowledge and insightful information that would help potential customers make their purchasing decision(s). Unfortunately many of them have not implemented a system to make this information easily accessible, or even visible to potential customers on a large scale.
One of the easiest ways to accomplish this is to write articles that bring value to your target market and referral sources. Utilize the people in your company. Find out from your sales reps what is important to customers. Find out what aspects potential customers are taking into account when making a purchasing decision about your product or service. Remember it is not about you, it is about them. Be selfless and write about tips that will truly help a potential customer. Integrate your knowledge of your product or service without a sales pitch. This is a sure way to bring TRUE value to the reader and position yourself as a trusted resource.
So now you have the tools to develop the articles that will position you as leader in your field, but what do you do with them?
I recommend building a blog component to your website. This will accomplish the original goal of establishing yourself as an industry leader and much more. A blog will ensure that your articles are easily accessible to your target market. You can add an RSS feed button on your home page that will give readers an option to consistently connect with your posts. If you are providing real value in your posts, they will want to stay in contact with your content. Blog articles will also increase your search engine ranking with the constant stream of new, and relevant information being added to your website. Not a bad side effect.
I also recommend integrating the blog articles into your social media strategy. Posting links to the articles on social media sites like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter will expand the reach of your articles and increase your credibility in your social network. The beauty of this strategy is the articles live on your website. So when a potential customer clicks through from a social media page they will be on your website reading valuable information on a topic they are obviously interested in. If they have an interest, there is a good chance that they are a potential customer. By giving them this resource, you are perceived as a thought leader and they are (or should be) only one click away from your offering and contact information. Tell me that doesn’t get you excited!
Using your blogs post in your social media strategy will also have a positive affect on your search engine ranking. The search engines are now taking social media into account when ranking your page. Creating these links back to your website from social media posts can increase your search engine ranking and bring even more visitors.
Blogs are a a fantastic way to give your voice meaning and value in a crowded marketplace. When used as part of an integrated strategy, the rewards carry a magnitude that can’t be ignored. If you have a question, or need assistance, we are only ONE CLICK away.
